Billie Jean King: “I wanted women and men to play on the same circuit”

At 75, Billie Jean King has kept the same pugnacity she displayed on the tennis courts. A visionary, the American with thirty-nine Grand Slam titles, including twelve in singles, revolutionized the game: in 1973 she founded the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), which still governs the women’s circuit, and achieved equal endowments between men and women at the Us Open, before the other Grand Slam tournaments followed.
